Now, had I opened the same present and found one of the three new MAC Objects of Affection Lip Gloss sets instead ($35 each, $42 CAD), things would have been different. I would have leaped and kicked and danced in my flannel pajamas because unlike MAC’s regular holiday eyeshadow palettes and brush sets, which can be hit or miss, their gloss sets tend to consistently delight me.

In my experience, the glosses in their holiday sets are right up their with the glosses in MAC’s permanent line in terms of quality, making them good bets for gift giving.

I’ve gifted past MAC holiday gloss sets to beauty gals of all ages over the years, from my teenage cousins to my 80-something-year-old glam granny, and they’ve always been hits. even my BFF Cindy, who’s aggressively anti-makeup, hasn’t groaned when I’ve given her one of them. That has to tell you something.

This year, there are three lip gloss sets in the MAC holiday collection — nude and Red, Pink and Plum, and nude and Coral. Each one comes with three mini Cremesheen Glasses and a mini Dazzleglass.

I love these two formulas, especially during the cooler months. Unlike the Lipglasses, they aren’t sticky, so my hair doesn’t get stuck to my lips when it’s windy. They’re also moisturizing and shiny, to boot.

I don’t mind having to reapply them every two to three hours because of how good they feel on my lips, like Zella hoodies in gloss form.

The three MAC Objects of Affection Lip Gloss Sets: Overview

If you’re looking for variety, grab the nude and Coral set. It has a good mix of sheer and fully pigmented shades.

If you want glosses for layering, go for Pink and Plum. Its three sheerest shades really come into their own when layered on top of lipsticks. There’s also a more intensely pigmented bright blue pink in the set for a fun pop of color.

If you go gaga for classic makeup looks, don’t miss nude and Red. Its three neutral nudes and bright raspberry red go well with makeup standards like cat eyeliner and smokey eyes.

Really, though, I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these sets (but the nude and Coral one is my fave).

Whenever MAC releases new holiday gloss sets, I usually react the same way as I do when I’m flipping through the channels and see a lifetime movie involving a woman in peril fighting some form of demon possession… For real, though! There’s something about a homegirl battling the supernatural that gets me every time.

Same goes for these gloss sets.

Yes, domestic divas, a freaking laundromat serves as the backdrop for MAC’s new summer collection, wash and Dry.

As a woman who has probably spent around one third of her adult life hanging out in laundromats (I didn’t have a washer/dryer until I moved into this condo), I feel qualified to say that this is by far the schmexy-est laundromat of them all.

First, you don’t have worry about running out of quarters, or about somebody stealing your cat t-shirts and stretchy pants out of the dryer, or about that creepy dude lurking in the corner who you suspect intends to flash you. None of those are issues at this facility. In fact, the odds of that man using to touch up your eye makeup are far greater than the odds of him exposing his manly bits.

This collection is so much a lot more fun than washing and folding clothes.

It’s a pretty substantial one, too, with four steamy lipsticks (one word: BRIGHTS), four glosses, a couple of blushes, two nail polishes and a bad-@ss highlighting powder (stay tuned for that review) — oh, and bronzers, of course, because it’s not a legit MAC summer launch without a guest appearance by refined Golden, obvs.

For eyes, there are a enormous number of brow products, a few liners, a waterproof mascara and three eyeshadow trios, which leads me to this…

I’m wearing permanent Press, one of the $27.50 Veluxe Pearlfusion shadow Trios from the collection, in this toasty brown, smokey cat eye today, and I had absolutely no trouble blending it, thanks to the silky — nearly creamy — Veluxe Pearlfusion formula. It’s incredibly lightweight, so melding the colors into each other doesn’t require a lot of effort with a blending brush.

You can wear them dry, like I’ve done here, for a dreamy metallic shine, or apply them with a wet brush for a lot more of a goddess-emerging-from-the-surf (or the laundry soap suds, in this case) foil-like shine. Either way, they last from 7-8 hours on my combination lids when applied atop primer.

Permanent Press: When it pertains to everyday eye makeup, I gravitate toward neutrals a lot of the time, so this trio of beige, neutral brownish bronze and black infused with golden pearl sits at the top of my laundry list.

It’s just so flexible! You can smoke it out for an intense look, or do a quick wash of color on your lids with it if you’re in a hurry (10-minute makeup, yo!). Or, do something sort of in the middle, like a smokey cat eye. I think this trio is the most workable of the three in terms of color temp, and the skin tones that could rock it, because of how neutral its neutrals are.

They’re pretty darned neutral. Not too warm, nor cool, so it must work well for a lot of everyone.

Warm Wash: The copper in the center of this trio is so sparkly that I make grabby hands whenever I see it. too bad its just SO chunky. I think a fingertip or a brush saturated with MAC fix + might be the best tools to use for this one, and I’d steer clear of fluffy brushes, because they’re liable to throw warm wash powder particles all over the place.

Green Clean: Dat khaki tho!!! wet or dry, it’s the business. There’s an undercurrent of gold in it that really makes it pop on a tan.

Mezi! — you know what would be pretty? Doing either the light pale green, or the lime green, lightly buffed on the lids with khaki cat eye liner.

Note to self: make that happen, ASAP.

One last thing — if you like to apply your foundation first, I suggest holding a tissue under your lash line when you apply and blend these Veluxe Pearlfusions to catch any wayward falling shadow, because I normally experience a little fallout with them, especially the darker barvy.

Moje tři nejlepší, nejlepší oční víčka!
Eyeliner musí být mým mnoha oblíbeným make-upem … nebo alespoň jeden z nich. Primárně jsem to jen využíval na mém utrpení, stejně jako vodorysku, protože opravdu zůstanou. They’re perfect for beginners, and/or lazy people (like moi!), and/or anyone hell bent on rocking a “smoky eye ’til I die” lifestyle. You can get a beautifully buffed cloud of hazy fog around your eyes without having to use a zillion eyeshadows.

Of course, feel free to use a zillion eyeshadows on your lids whenever you want (lord knows I do), but sometimes it’s just nice to know you don’t have to. With these, you can do simplified versions of your favorite foggy eye looks with gorgeous gradients in less time than it takes to get to the front of the line at Starbucks, order a delicious drink covered in caramel and whipped cream, and wink at the barista.

Despite the way these look in their tubes, they are not lipglosses (although I can totally see myself pulling one out of my purse at the movies in the dark). They’re actually a brand new line of water-based liquid eyeshadows that can also be used as liners. Interestingly, the formula feels like a cream (they’re thicker than Josie Maran’s Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadows) but dries to a powder finish.

The lightweight, non-sticky formula is supposed to last 16 hours without smudging…

Truth be told, I do not want to be wearing these or any eyeshadows for 16 hours, because that would mean I’m having a very, very long day. I have worn them for stretches of eight hours, though, and yes, they stayed put without scooting around or settling into the crease…but I had to be very careful. The slightest touch lifts them right off your lids.

As for the coverage, it’s quite versatile. For instance, you can easily do a solid block of opaque color using one as a liner, or sheer one out and do a smokey eye.

A few ways to use the new Giorgio Armani Eye Tints…

As eyeliners! just trace your lash line with the tip of the applicator, and then smudge out the edges with an angled brush.

As straight-up eyeshadows. Smear a bit on your lids, then smoke out the edges with a blending brush.

As a base, upon which you can layer other schtuff.

I like these for quick smokey eyes — like when I’m harried or under duress. I’ll skip primer and just swipe one on my lids with the closest eye brush and buff out the edges.
